Understanding Lesson Requirements for Sydney Learners
If you are under 25 then 120 hours of log book driving (including 20 nightime hours) is required before you are eligible to take the NSW driving test. These hours can be with any fully liscenced driver, but one hour logged with us counts for three standard driving hours!
If you are 25 or over then there is no fixed number of lessons required to pass the NSW driving test. Outcomes depend on prior experience, practice frequency, and familiarity with local traffic conditions.
Typical Progression Seen Among LMate Students
Experience Level | Average Professional Lessons |
Beginner with minimal practice | 8–12 lessons |
Regular supervised driving | 5–8 lessons |
Near test standard | 2–4 lessons |
Lessons focus on correcting habits that commonly cause test failure:

Observation timing at intersections
Speed management in 50–60 km/h transitions
Indication discipline when leaving kerbs
Parking accuracy under assessment conditions
Why Professional Lessons Matter
Supervised practice builds hours. Professional lessons build test readiness.
